Tabo Monastery forms one of the most important Buddhist complexes in the western Himalayas. Founded in 996 AD, the complex includes ancient temples, chortens, monastic chambers and extraordinary wall paintings and sculptures. The surrounding village and meditation caves reinforce the sense that Tabo is not simply a monument, but a living spiritual landscape.
