Lachung is a high mountain village in Mangan district and the principal base for journeys into Yumthang Valley. Houses spread along both sides of the river beneath steep Himalayan slopes, while Lachung Monastery remains an important cultural centre. The village is also notable for its traditional Dzumsa system of local self-government, which continues to shape community life.
