Gurudongmar Lake lies in the extreme high-altitude landscape of Mangan district near the Tibetan plateau. The glacial lake is sacred in local religious traditions and is surrounded by barren mountains, snow and sparse alpine vegetation. Its extreme elevation makes the journey physically demanding, while access remains regulated through Sikkim’s protected-area permit system.
